SIOUX CENTER, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx football team returned to the gridiron on Friday Night, as they made the long trip into Northwest Iowa to take on the Sioux Center Warriors in Class 3A, District 1 action at the Open Space Athletic Complex on the campus of Dordt University. Webster City entered at 1-4, while Sioux Center entered at 5-0 and ranked #3 in Class 3A.
Sioux Center took control early in the contest with a couple of 1st quarter touchdowns to lead 14-0 after the first. Webster City did get on the board with a Kaleb Hansen touchdown in the 2nd quarter, but the Warriors added 2 more scores in the frame to lead 28-7 at the halftime break.
The Warriors managed to add 2 more scores in the 3rd quarter to take a 42-7 lead, as Webster City and Sioux Center traded touchdowns in the 4th, with the Lynx scoring on a Kaleb Hansen touchdown run and an Alex Staley touchdown pass to Grant Arends, as the Lynx would fall on the road 56-21.
The Aces of the Game, presented by Ace Hardware of Webster City, were Lynx seniors John Wilwerding and Kaleb Hansen. Wilwerding had 2 tackles and 2 pass break-ups on Friday, while Hansen carried 31 times for 144 yards and 2 touchdowns. Boston Farley led the Lynx with 4.5 tackles, while Alex Staley was 3-for-4 for 36 yards and a touchdown.
Webster City football returns to action on Friday, when they host the Bishop Heelan Crusaders in Class 3A, District 1 action at Lynx Field, with kickoff at 7 PM on AM 1570/FM 99.1 KZWC or online at kqradio.com.
