(1A) #9 Clarion-Goldfield-Dows downs Eagle Grove in 115th Battle for Wright County, 40-6

EAGLE GROVE, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys football teams renewed their longstanding rivalry on Friday Night, as they met for the 115th time at Gene Hinrichsen Field in Class 1A, District 3 action. CGD entered at 4-1 and ranked #9 in Class 1A, while Eagle Grove entered at 3-2.

Eagle Grove would go 3-and-out on their opening drive, as the Cowboys drove a short field and scored on a 5-yard touchdown run by Colin Sesker as the Cowboys took a 7-0 lead. Eagle Grove fumbled on the ensuing kickoff, as CGD recovered and capitalized on a short field again, scoring on a 4-yard touchdown run by JD Morrical as the Cowboys took a 14-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Eagles would go 3-and-out on the following drive, but a botched punt set up CGD with first and goal at the 9, as they scored on a 9-yard touchdown run by Maxton Downing as the Cowboys took a 21-0 lead. Penalties doomed the next drive for the Eagles, as CGD would get inside the 10, but settled for a Matthew Tijul Villatoro 23-yard field goal to go ahead 24-0. CGD would punch in another touchdown on a 23-yard touchdown run by Reed Campbell as the Cowboys led 31-0 at halftime.

The 3rd quarter would go scoreless, as the 4th quarter started off with a 30-yard field goal from Matthew Tijul Villatoro to extend the Cowboys lead to 34-0, as Eagle Grove then scored on a 6-yard touchdown run by Kylar Sisson to bring the score to 34-6. CGD then put the final stamp on the game with a 10-yard touchdown run by Reed Campbell, bringing the final to 40-6.

The CGD Ace of the Game, presented by Ace Hardware of Webster City, was Cowboys junior Colin Sesker, who rushed 17 times for 114 yards and a touchdown, while tallying a team-high 11 tackles defensively. JD Morrical was 4-for-8 for 33 yards, while rushing for 70 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, while Reed Campbell had 11 carries for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Eagle Grove Ace of the Game, presented by Ace Hardware of Webster City, was Eagles sophomore Kylar Sisson. Sisson carried 6 times for 61 yards in the contest, as Jackson Babcock led the Eagles defense with a game-high 12.5 tackles, as Adrian Whipple was 9-for-15 for 68 yards, while rushing for 45 yards.
