WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx football team returns to the gridiron on Friday night, as they open their Class 3A, District 1 slate by hosting their longtime rivals in the Humboldt Wildcats at Lynx Field. Webster City enters with a record of 0-4, while Humboldt enters with a similar 0-4 mark. Friday’s meeting marks the 108th all-time meeting between the 2 programs, as Webster City leads the all-time series 69-33-5, with the Lynx winning last season’s meeting in Humboldt 21-14.
It’s an odd year in Iowa High School Football when Webster City and Humboldt meet in the middle of the season and both squads are in search of their first victory, as the Wildcats enter 0-4 with non-district losses to Spencer, Clear Lake, Carroll and Ballard. The Humboldt offense is directed by junior quarterback Caden Fredin, who’s thrown for 160 yards and 4 interceptions, while rushing for 145 yards and 2 scores. Fredin’s favorite targets have been receivers Jaxson Kirchoff and Dane Clark as Kirchoff has 6 receptions for 32 yards, as Clark, the son of former Iowa and Indianapolis Colts tight end Dallas Clark, has caught 5 passes for 58 yards. Cash McIntire is the bellcow for the Wildcats offense, carrying 73 times for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns, as the Humboldt offensive line is led by new Iowa State-wrestling commit Joe Constable and Griffin Groat.
Defensively, the Wildcats front seven has done a lot of the dirty work, as junior linebacker Braden Downs leads the team with 26.5 tackles, while all-stater Broedy Hendricks has moved to linebacker and has recorded 25.5 tackles, 2 TFL and 2 sacks. Griffin Groat rounds out the unit with 13 tackles himself. The defensive line has seen consistency with the play of Joe Constable and defensive end Dane Clark, who has 9.5 tackles, 2 TFL and 2 sacks. Humboldt’s defensive backfield has been picked on early, as Nash Palmer leads the secondary with 17.5 tackles, while Cash McIntire and Jaxson Kirchoff have combined for over 30 tackles.

Webster City enters following their most complete game of the season, falling to Gilbert late 27-13, as the Lynx offense found success on the ground behind Kaleb Hanson. Coyce Bertran is expected to return this week and give Webster City an added element back in the rushing game. The Lynx defense will set their sights on eliminating Cash McIntire in the run game, while also pressuring Wildcats quarterback Cade Fredin.
