JEWELL, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks volleyball team returned to the court on Thursday night, as they hosted a Heart of Iowa Conference tri match at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. Joining the Hawks in Thursday’s tri were the Grand View Christian Thunder and the Greene County Rams.
South Hamilton opened the evening by facing off with Grand View Christian, as the Hawks would open up with a 25-18 win in the opening set, before a struggle of a 2nd set as the Thunder tied the match at 1-1 after a 25-18 win of their own. Set 3 however would belong to the Hawks as they upended the Thunder 15-11 and won 2-1. Tessa Skartvedt finished the match with 10 kills, 4 aces and a block, while Addy Trask added 5 kills for the Hawks.
The final match of the night saw the Hawks face off with Greene County, as the Rams would win a battle of an opening set by a score of 25-22, as the Hawks and Rams were even throughout the first half of set 2, but South Hamilton put together a late run to grab a 25-16 win to send the match to a 3rd set. The 3rd set would be back-and-forth, but the Hawks would end up as winners 15-13, and won the match 2-1.
The Ace of the Game, presented by Ace Hardware of Webster City, was South Hamilton senior Tessa Skartvedt, who combined for 22 kills, 7 aces and a block in the Hawks two matches. Stella Martensen combined for 9 kills, as Adey Trask combined for 8 kills across both matches.
South Hamilton volleyball returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Dallas County to take on the Nevada Cubs and the Woodward-Granger Hawks in a Heart of Iowa Conference tri at Woodward-Granger High School, beginning at 5 PM.
