GILBERT, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx football team returns to the gridiron on Friday Night, as they make a short trip into northern Story County to take on the Gilbert Tigers in the Lynx non-district finale at Tiger Stadium. Webster City enters Friday with a mark of 0-3, while Gilbert enters at 2-1. Webster City enters Friday’s matchup leading the all-time series 9-3, as Gilbert won the 2025 meeting by a score of 34-21.
After back-to-back 4A District Titles, Gilbert football enters a year of rebuilding as Graham Lundt’s program goes in knowing their identity as a power, option football team. The Tigers opened with a road loss to Carroll, before reeling off back-to-back over Mason City and Boone. Quarterback Nicholas Stupp directs the Gilbert option attack, throwing for 145 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for another 63 yards and 2 scores. Sophomore running back Joe Niegsch leads the Tigers with 243 yards and 3 scores on the ground, while seniors Tayton Warg and Micah Leyva each have over 100 yards rushing. The offensive line is anchored by senior offensive tackle Trent Wesselmann.
Defensively, the Tigers linebacking core has led the way as junior Josh Fink leads the team in tackles with 15.5, along with 3.5 TFL and a sack, while senior Tayton Warg has 13.5 tackles and Brandon Terry has 12 tackles. Senior Charlie Reich has led the defensive backfield with 2.5 tackes, but 4 pass breakups and a pick six on the season. The defensive line has been a committee type of unit so far in 2026.
