Jewell- This week the Jewell City Council learned about the proceeding season at the municipal outdoor pool that closed back on August 16th. This year, there was $120,999.97 in expenses. A total of $71,082 of the expenses were for the new pool filter and the donations to the Enhance Hamilton County Foundation for the new pool. There was $7,653.95 in revenue for the Jewell Pool facility. The council accepted the report for the 2026 season of operation and to submit a letter of appreciation to Olivia Beaune.
The possible abandonment of Fifth Street was discussed with Luanne and Dennis Vulgamott. The Jewell City Council approved a motion to have the planning and zoning commission to meet and to make a recommendation.
Jewell Public Works director Terry Anderson explained to council members that a recent lightning strike at the Jewell well house caused damage to its SCADA system and photo eye. The quote from Electric Pump to repair the damage is $15,410. The city has a $2500 insurance deductible. Jewell City council members voted in favor to turn the damage into insurance.
Nuisance abatements for 939 Edwards in Jewell and to help put up orange fencing at 444 Collins Street to help secure the area were both approved by the council.
