Fort Dodge- The Fort Dodge Fire Department at mid-morning Tuesday battled a fire at a two-story townhome. The call was received just before 10a.m. to the Westridge Townhomes on Avenue M West. When firefighters arrived, they witnessed smoke and flames originating from the front of the structure. Authorities said the fire started on the first floor of an end apartment and extended into the floor system between the first and second levels. The firefighters used a handline to bring the main body of the fire under control before conducting additional overhaul operations to extinguish the remaining hot spots. There was a second-alarm callback that brought seven off-duty Fort Dodge firefighters to the scene. The additional personnel helped provide coverage for the Fort Dodge community while crews worked at the fire. There were no injuries in Tuesday’s fire. A Webster County sheriff’s deputy removed a dog from the building without injury. The cause behind the townhome fire remains under investigation.
