IOWA FALLS, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx football team opened their 2026 football season on Friday night, as they made the short trek east on Highway 20 to take on the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets in non-district action at Cadet Field.
Both teams would stall out on their opening drives of the night, as the first big play as an Iowa Falls interception of Alex Staley, as the Cadets then fumbled inside the 5 to give the Lynx the ball back. Webster City then turned the football over again, this time on a pick six as Iowa Falls to an initial 7-0 lead. Webster City did respond with a scoring drive, capped off by a 22-yard field goal from Israel Torres to make the score 7-3. The Cadets scored shortly there after on a 2-yard run from Karsen Kalous to put IF-A ahead 14-3, as the Cadets held that advantage at halftime.
Iowa Falls would then strike on the first play of the 2nd half, as Cruz Burroughs ripped off an 80-yard touchdown run to put the Cadets ahead 20-6 after a failed PAT. After a Webster City punt, the Cadets scored again on a 44-yard touchdown run from Jack Duit to take a 26-3 lead, as the Cadets then scored early in the 4th on a Karsen Kalous TD from a yard out as IF-A took a 32-3 lead. Webster City’s defense would collect a safety in the 4th quarter to bring the final to 32-5.
The Ace Hardware of Webster City Ace of the Game was senior Israel Torres, who made a 22-yard field goal, as well as 5.5 tackles, 2.5 TFL, a sack and averaged 46.4 yards per punt. Coyce Bertran led the Lynx with 13 carries for 82 yards, while Kaleb Hansen carried 22 times for 62 yards.
Webster City football hits the gridiron again on Friday, when they travel west on Highway 20 to take on the Fort Dodge Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, with kickoff at 7 PM on AM 1570/FM 99.1 KZWC.
