Jewell- A wide range of issues faced the Jewell City Council at their August 10th meeting. The council approved the payment request from the Hamilton County Conservation Board for the trail repair project on the JewEllsworth trail in the amount of $833,31 due to recent damage. The submission of a REAP grant for the Jewell to Little Wall Lake trail was approved by the council. The grant will be submitted to the Iowa DNR for review and approval
The second and third readings for ordinances on solicitors, peddlers and transient merchants doing business in Jewell was approved by council members. The ordinance now allows an additional option for food truck vendors to get an annual permit for $100. The Jewell outdoor pool will close for the summer season on August 16th. A search is underway to find a new pool manager for next season.
In other matters, the Jewell City Council heard from Ryan Sporling to request the use of the Jewell City Park for an adult flag football league. The games will be played on Saturdays at the park after the conclusion of the youth soccer games. The Jewell City Council approved the request for the adult flag football program.
Jewell Fire Chief Duane Hendrickson presented a financial report of the rescue division of the Fire Department. The total income for 2026 was $81,893.13 with total expenditures were $83,857.98. A total of 123 total calls were received to the Jewell emergency responders during the 2025-26 year.
