WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The last two seasons of Webster City football, to the average consumer of high school football, look like below-normal outcomes compared to the success of the Lynx program in the past 20 years. While players and staff will be the first to tell you that they expect more of the program, the schedule Webster City football has been tasked with is, pound-for-pound, one of the toughest you’ll find anywhere in the entire state. Webster City’s opponents in 2025 had a combined record of 63-29, with 3 teams reaching 10+ wins. While there’s expected to be a bit of change amongst the foe’s on the Lynx schedule, Webster City has their own changes to navigate through before the season opens on August 30th in Iowa Falls.
Offense
The more things change, the more they stay the same in the case of the Webster City offense, as the Lynx single wing attack will have a few new faces to handle the load. The spinner back position will have a new face, and senior Coyce Bertran is slated to take over the position after a backup role offensively in 2026. Kaleb Hansen looks to be the bellcow on offense, leading Lynx returners in rushing with 564 yards and 4 touchdowns last season. The wingback and blocking back spots are open as well, and some to watch to fill those positions include Gordon Bargfrede, Boston Farley, Tristan Bohl, Israel Torres and Edwin Ramos Nolasco. The offensive line will have a mixed big of returners and new faces, leading the line in returners is senior Zack Lahr, but young players such as Peyton Weisberg, Ayden Elliott, John Wilwerding and Harrison Scheuermann look poised to step up and make their impact on the always-important trenches. Grant Arends will also add some stability on the line by returning at his tight end spot, while the receiving core has spots open with the departures of Carter Mickelson and Jamey Stansfield.
Defense
Andy Brim’s defense loses a lot of multiple-year starters off the 2025 squad, but does bring back players quality playing time, starting on the defensive line with the return of Boston Farley and Zack Lahr, as players such as Peyton Weisberg and Israel Torres are two we could see play a lot up front. Grant Arends headlines the linebacking core, returning after becoming a big play backer for the Lynx with 42 tackles and 7.5 TFL in 2025. Arends will likely have Kaleb Hansen join him full time in the second-level, while other spots are open to the likes of Gordon Bargfrede, Edwin Ramos Nolasco, Briggs Peppel and William Ruby. The secondary brings back a starter in Coyce Bertran, who finished with 44 tackles, an interception and 5 pass breakups in 2025. Bertran will likely be joined by senior Luke Blake, as well as others such as Grayson Simonton and Isaac Stines.
