Webster City softball season ends with regional loss to Ballard, 6-1

HUXLEY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip south on Highway 69 to take on the Ballard Bombers in Class 4A, Region 2 quarterfinal action at Gary Telford Field. Webster City entered with a record of 11-15, while Ballard entered at 11-19.

After a scoreless first, it was Ballard the broke open the scoring with 4 runs in the 2nd to take a 4-0 lead. Webster City answered in the 5th with a run scoring on an error, but Ballard would put up a run in the 5th and the 6th as the Bombers closed a 6-1 victory.

Jakaela Cherry took the loss in the circle, going 5.1 innings and allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits and striking out 1. Jaylyn Bahrenfuss would go 2-for-3 with a double, while Amanda Lahr and Hayden McCoy also recorded hits.

Ballard advances to the Class 4A, Region 2 semifinals, where they will face #2 Carlisle on Saturday Night at 7 PM in Carlisle. Webster City’s season ends with a record of 11-16.
