WEBSTER CITY, Ia. AND DES MOINES, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Friday, as they hosted the Boone Toreadors in non-conference action at Webster City High School. The Lynx entered at 15-2, while Boone entered at 8-7.
It would be a back and forth battle early, before a big 5-run frame from Boone helped propel the Toreadors to a 9-5 win on Friday. Aiden Hrnicek took the loss on the mound, going 4.1 innings and allowing 6 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 2. Boston Farley went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Jaxon Griffith went 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.
Webster City would turn around and play in the Jim Gebhart Classic in Des Moines on Saturday, beginning their day with a battle against the Van Meter Bulldogs. Webster City would lead the contest 6-2 in the top of the 5th, but Van Meter rallied with a 5-run 5th, before taking the lead in the 6th and closing out an 8-7 victory.
Matt Tesdahl took the loss in relief, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 1 in 1.1 innings. Carter Mickelson had the top day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, while Jaxon Griffith was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Lynx ended the day with a battle with (3A) #4 Saydel, as the Lynx and Eagles would battle back and forth, but a 6-run 5th inning by Saydel would be the difference as the Eagles held off the Lynx by a score of 10-8.
Jaxon Griffith was the losing pitcher in relief, allowing 6 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits and striking out 2. Syrus Willard went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI, while Jaxon Griffith went 1-for-1 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
