Hay barn in rural Boone County declared a total loss late Wednesday afternoon fire.

Boone- Fire fighters in a three-county area were summoned to hay barn fire late Wednesday afternoon in rural Boone County. Firefighters from the Boone Fire Department were summoned to 1775 140th Street northeast of Boone at around 4:17 p.m. Wednesday.When the fire trucks and personnel arrived, they noticed a large column of smoke in the area. Mutual aid was requested from the Stratford, Stanhope and Story City Fire Departments for tankers, equipment and manpower.  The hay barn was fully involved and partially collapsed from the fire. Authorities say the structure was a complete loss along with the building’s contents. Firefighters worked to move metal siding and roof panels to allow the fire to burn freely. There were no injuries in Wednesday’s barn fire. The fire was left burning with the property owner monitoring it. The Boone Fire Department was assisted by the Boone County Communications Center, Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the Boone County Ambulance.
