Eagle Grove softball shuts out Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Friday, 16-0

CLARION, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls softball teams returned to action on Friday evening, as the two rivals faced one another in non-conference action at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. Eagle Grove entered at 1-1, as CGD entered at 1-0.

Eagle Grove started things with a steal of home by Myka Anderson in the first to take a 1-0 lead, before putting up 3 runs in the 2nd of a Brenna Grandgeorge RBI single, an Ellie Lenning steal of home and an RBI fielder’s choice from Salem Willard to make it 4-0. Eagle Grove added a run in the 3rd off a Lily Locke RBI ground out, before adding 3 more runs on a Holly Anderson RBI double, a Mya Morgan sac fly and wild pitch to put the Eagles ahead 8-0. The Eagles then blew the doors off the game in the 5th with 8 runs off 2 errors, a Mya Morgan RBI triple, a Lily Locke RBI single, an Ellie Lenning RBI single, a Chloe Schultz RBI double and a Chloe Schultz steal of home to help lock up a 16-0, 5-inning victory.

Mya Morgan would pitch a 5-inning perfect game, allowing no runs, no hits and striking out 8. Morgan went 1-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI, while Chloe Schultz went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Kinlee Nail was charged with the loss for CGD, allowing 8 runs (5 earned) on 2 hits and struck out 4.

Eagle Grove softball returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Forest City for their Top of Iowa West opener at Forest City High School with first pitch at 6 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball returns to action on Thursday, when they host (2A) #12 Osage in non-conference action at CGD High School, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
