JEFFERSON, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball team returned to action on Saturday night, as they traveled west on Highway 30 to take on the Knights of Kuemper Catholic in the Class 2A, Substate 2 championship game at Greene County High School.
It would be a back-and-forth battle in the opening quarter, as Kuemper led 18-13 after the first quarter, slightly extending the lead to 30-23 by the halftime break. The Knights looked poised to pull away in after the 3rd quarter, leading 44-33, but Roland-Story would roar back in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 48-48 with 90 seconds to go. However, Kuemper would have one final push to come away with a 54-48 victory.
Senior Blake Larsen had a game-high 18 points in his final game in a Norsemen uniform, as Luke Thoreson added 15 points, and Eli Van Hove had 11 points and 7 rebounds.
Kuemper Catholic advances to the state tournament to take on Union Community on Tuesday morning at 10:30 AM. Roland-Story’s season ends with a record of 18-6.
