Jewell City Council approves applying for grants for the city’s pool project.

At a meeting this week, the Jewell City Council met with Rick Young from the SHAPE committee with an update on fund raising efforts for the new outdoor swimming pool and to request to begin applying for grants. The balance on hand with Enhance Hamilton County is at $1,691,892.15. Additional money has been committed as well. The council approved the SHAPE committee can begin applying for grants and that the city of Jewell will sign off on final versions before submission.

The Jewell City Council met this week with Rick Knoll of the Jewell Jubilee committee on the use of the Jewell City Park for the celebration and for the annual free pool day during the event. The council approved the Jewell Jubilee committee to use the City Park on June 12th and 13th and the free swim day to be on June 13th.

Montgomery Memorial Librarian Roxie Young presented the fiscal year 2026-27 budget request and gave a recap of 2025. The library is requesting $76,000 from the City of Jewell, The library serves as a keeper of history, a community builder, institution of learning and sustainable resource sharer. The door count for the library was up 35 percent for the year and 772 attended summer activities. The library plans on obtaining grants to digitally archive newspapers.

The council appointed Karl Corbin, Stacy Alsager, Travis Anderson and Dave Trask to serve on the Jewell Park Board for 2026.
