JEFFERSON, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they traveled to Jefferson to take on the Greene County Rams in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Greene County High School.
It would be a strong start for Greene County, who led 9-6 after the first quarter, before the Hawks offense roared to life with 19 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 25-22 halftime lead. The game would remain close through the 3rd quarter and into the 4th quarter, before South Hamilton pulled away late for a 51-44 victory.
The KQWC Player of the Game for the Hawks was freshman Signe Swenson, who led the Hawks with 13 points on the night, as senior Izzy Swenson added 12 points.
In the ensuing boys game, South Hamilton would come out with hot shooting in the first half, leading 17-11 after the first quarter, extending the lead to 34-20 at the halftime break behind 6 first-half threes. Greene County would roar back in the 2nd half, cutting the deficit to as little as 3 in the 4th quarter, but the Hawks would salt the game away late for a 66-56 victory.
The KQWC Player of the Game for the Hawks was senior Sam Koehnk, who had a game-high 17 points for South Hamilton with 4 three-pointers, as Jackson Olmstead and Ben Swenson added 14 points each.
South Hamilton girls basketball returns to action on Saturday, as they host the Columbus Catholic Sailors in their Class 2A, Region 1 bracket at South Hamilton High School, with tipoff at 7 PM. South Hamilton boys basketball returns to action on Tuesday night, as they travel to Monroe to take on the PCM Mustangs in their Class 2A, District 5 first round matchup with tipoff at 7 PM.
