Roland-Story basketball sweeps Saydel in HOIAC finale in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip to the Des Moines metro to take on the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Saydel High School.

Roland-Story’s girls would waste little time in handling business against the Eagles, leading 21-5 after the first quarter, extending that lead to 35-9 at halftime. The Norse continued pressuring the Eagles throughout the 2nd half to cap a 65-20 victory.

Riley Johnson led the Norse with 20 points, as Roland-Story tied a season-high with 13 three-pointers on Tuesday night.

The boys game followed as the Norsemen and Eagles went blow for blow in the first half, as Roland-Story led 30-29 at the halftime break. The Norsemen would come out and dominate the 3rd quarter to open a 48-34 lead. Saydel would rally in the 4th, cutting the deficit to as little as 6, but the Norsemen would salt the game away at the line for a 62-53 victory.

Junior Luke Thoreson put together another big scoring night, pouring in a game-high 25 points with 8 rebounds, as Colin Willis added 16 points with 4, three-pointers.

Roland-Story boys basketball returns to action on Thursday, as they host the Martensdale-St. Marys Blue Devils in non-conference action with tipoff at 7:15 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com. The Roland-Story girls basketball team returns to action on Saturday, as they host the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets in their Class 3A, Region 5 first round game with tipoff at 7 PM.
