GARNER, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip into Hancock County to take on the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals in Top of Iowa West action at GHV High School. Tuesday’s doubleheader would be the final ever played by the Eagles as members of the Top of Iowa Conference.
GHV’s girls would not waste time in pouncing on the Eagles, leading 28-12 after the first quarter, extending that lead to 49-16 at halftime. The Cardinals would cruise throughout the 2nd half to hand Eagle Grove a 69-29 loss.
Kendra Schild led the Eagles with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, while Myka Anderson added 8 points. Bella Schisel led GHV with 20 points on the night.
The boys game followed as it would be a very tight first half, as Garner-Hayfield-Ventura held a slight 28-27 lead at the halftime break. Eagle Grove came out and attacked in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 22-14 to take a 49-42 lead, before pulling away for a 64-53 victory.
Eagle Grove stats were not available on Bound as of Wednesday morning.
Eagle Grove girls basketball returns to action on Saturday night, as they make the trip to Forest City to take on the Indians in their Class 3A, Region 7 first round game with tipoff at 7 PM. Eagle Grove boys basketball returns to action on Monday, as they travel to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows for their Class 2A, District 3 first round game against the Cowboys, with tipoff at 7 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
