South Hamilton School Board learn about the plans for a new auxiliary gym

During their Monday night meeting, the South Hamilton School Board met with Nick Nugent of Emergent Architecture on the final plans for the auxiliary gym at the school. The current gym facilities are heavily used by students in the 7 through 12 grades and community youth sports. The gym would not serve as a competition venue but as a flexible, practice-focused facility with space for one or two courts for the students. After the presentation by Nugent, the board approved the authorization to publish the notice and solicit the bids for the auxiliary gym project beginning March 12th. The board also directed the administration to proceed with the bidding process consistent with state law and district procedures for the project.

The South Hamilton School Board set the date of March 9th at 6:00 p.m. for the public hearing on the proposed 2026-27 school calendar. Board member Ryan Stuck was appointed to serve on the Hamilton County Conference Board. The resignation of Tom Bell as school bus driver was accepted. The board went on to approve the sale of the musical projection carriage and clock for $175 and to authorize the administration to complete the transaction in accordance with board policy.

The winter sports season for South Hamilton is beginning to wind down in the coming weeks. The South Hamilton boys and girls’ basketball teams will be in playoff action in the coming weeks. The Hawkettes will face Waterloo Columbus in a first-round regional basketball game at Jewell this Saturday evening, February 14th at 7:00 p.m. Fund raisers for the Post Prom and for the Easter Egg/Basket Sale for the South Hamilton Elementary Booster Club were approved on Monday evening.

Trust Fund Transfers were approved by the South Hamilton School Board. A total of $549.50 was approved for the Prescription for Kids Fund to help the school nurse for supplies. The M.E. Williams Fund for $7,815.74 for a scholarship with the money to be transferred to a scholarship fund.  Another donation from the Vocational Agriculture Scholarship Fund to the South Hamilton Foundation for $349. 37 was approved.
