JEWELL, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Perry Bluejays in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School in Jewell.
South Hamilton’s girls would lean on defense early on, as the Hawks led 11-7 after the first quarter, extending that lead to 19-14 at the halftime break. The 3rd quarter saw the Hawks gain more separation with 17 points in the frame to take a 36-24 lead before coasting to a 44-28 victory.
Emma Lammers led the Hawks with 12 points and 4, three-pointers, as Signe Swenson added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Tessa Skartvedt had a big defensive night, with 8 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks.
The boys game followed as South Hamilton led the Bluejays early 14-12 after the first quarter, before the Hawks defense stymied Perry in the 2nd quarter to take a 29-18 halftime lead. The Hawks offense then exploded for 26 points in the 3rd quarter, helping South Hamilton cruise in the 4th quarter to a 68-40 victory.
Sam Koehnk led the Hawks with 17 points, while Ben Swenson and Luke Martensen had 14 points. Jackson Olmstead stuffed the statsheet with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 steals.
South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Monday night, when they host the Grand View Christian Thunder in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School, with tipoff at 6 PM.
