STORY CITY, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the PCM Mustangs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School in Story City.
Roland-Story’s girls were in search of an upset to put them in a share for the HOIAC title with the 6th-ranked Mustangs, as Roland-Story led 17-9 early, as PCM cut the lead to 25-20 at the halftime break. The Norse gained more separation in the 3rd quarter to lead 39-29 going into the 4th quarter, but PCM would storm back to steal the game late for a 48-46 win to capture the outright HOIAC title.
Riley Johnson led the Norse with 18 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals, while Emma Truesdell added 12 points and 5 rebounds. Tori Lindsay led PCM with 18 points.
The boys game followed as Roland-Story looked to stay on pace in 2nd in the HOIAC, and led PCM 18-8 after the first quarter, extending that lead to 33-21 at halftime. Roland-Story continued to slowly build the lead in the 2nd half before shutting PCM down to grab a 62-40 win.
Luke Thoreson led the Norsemen with 19 points and 6 rebounds, as Eli Van Hove had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Alex Wendt led PCM with 12 points.
Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Monday, as they travel to Van Meter to take on the Bulldogs in non-conference action at Van Meter High School, with tipoff at 6 PM.
