Webster City City Council to discuss the demolition of the Hilltop School at Monday evening meeting

A Webster City center for elementary education for many years is about to be history. This Monday evening, the Webster City City Council will make a motion to proceed with the demolition of the old Hilltop School building at 915 High Street with Mid Iowa Site Services,LLC in an amount not exceeding $89,000.91 . The school closed its doors back in the early 1990s. The former Hilltop School was condemned on March 27, 2025,after an inspection revealed severe structural concerns, including a failing roof, water infiltration, broken water pipes, and hazardous occupancy conditions. The building has switched hands five times in the last 20 years with various redevelopment hopes that never materialized. The structure is now past its useful life and poses a safety risk.

Other agenda items will include the setting of March 2nd for a public hearing on the designation of the expanded Webster City Riverview Urban Renewal Area and the Urban Renewal Plan Amendment at 6:05p.m. The second reading of an ordinance for all night parking prohibitions and the use of engine brakes and compression brakes being prohibited. A closed session of the Webster City City Council  to discuss the purchase or sale of particular real estate will take place at the conclusion of Monday’s meeting beginning at 6 p.m. at the Webster City City Hall.

Monday’s meeting will be telecast on the Webster City and KQWC Radio Facebook pages. Webster City City Manager John Harrenstein will be our guest on the Community Corner this Tuesday morning, February 3rd at 8:30 on KQWC FM 95.7 and kqradio.com.
