Search begins for a new Jewell City Council member.

A search is underway to find a new Jewell City Council member. This week, the council accepted the resignation of Scott Rohloff from the Jewell City Council. Rohloff’s term expires at the end of  2027. The Jewell City Council voted to appoint a new council member,in order to save the taxpayers, the expense of having a special election. The council will appoint a new council member at the February 23rd council meeting. Residents who are interested in holding a spot on the council, you are invited to pick up an application at the Jewell City Hall during the hours of 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

In other matters, the Jewell City Council met with its Public Works Director Terry Anderson on possible streets in need of repair. They include East Lane, Second Street, Jewell Street, and the intersection of Deckor and Johnson Streets as possibilities for work later in the year. Quotes for the work will be presented to the city council at a future meeting. The health insurance coverage for 2026 was adjusted by the Jewell City Council at $950 for an employee. The Jewell City Council approved the final payment of$67,814.62 to Jet Drain for work on the Main Street Project.

The Montgomery Memorial Library budget for the next fiscal year will be discussed at the next council meeting. Thoughts of another summer at the Jewell Municipal Swimming Pool were discussed at the council meeting. The council accepted a motion to approve the pool manager job description. Applications can be picked up at the Jewell City Hall.  Discussion on the Jewell wastewater project was held last Monday evening. Future project contracts will be scrutinized on an individual basis. Jewell City Council members Aaron Boor and Karl Corbn will serve on the personnel committee. Corbin will replace Scott Rohloff’s position on the Park Board.
