Eagle Grove basketball falls in Top of Iowa West doubleheader at Bishop Garrigan

ALGONA, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip into Kossuth County to take on the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears in Top of Iowa West action at Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona.

The Golden Bears girls would blitz Eagle Grove early, leading 38-8 after the first quarter, blowing that lead up to 72-12 at halftime. Garrigan would push the lead to 95-19 at the end of the 3 before settling on a 102-29 victory.

Taytum Edwards led the Eagles with 13 points and 5 rebounds, as Alyssa Haugland led Garrigan with 25 points.

Eagle Grove’s boys would hang tough early with the #1 team in 1A, trailing just 18-11 after the first quarter, before Garrigan put up 25 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 43-19 halftime lead. Garrigan kept their foot on the gas in the 3rd quarter before easing off in the 4th for an 83-39 victory.

Eagle Grove stats were not available as of Friday morning, Bishop Garrigan was led by a 26-point, 20-rebound performance from Amaury Thomas.

Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Manly to take on the Central Springs Panthers in non-conference action with tipoff at 6:15 PM.
