DES MOINES, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen wrestling team returned to action on Monday night, as they made the trip down to Des Moines to compete in the annual Heart of Iowa Conference Championships at Saydel High School. The Norsemen were joined by the host Eagles, as well as Greene County, Nevada, PCM, Perry, South Hamilton and West Marshall.
For the 2nd time in 3 years, Roland-Story captured the Heart of Iowa Conference title, winning with a total of 233 points, nearly 30 points more than 2nd place West Marshall. The Norsemen would qualify finalists at 9 weights and crown 3 conference champions on Monday night.
Caiden Latch would win the first individual title, pinning PCM’s Gracen Lust in the championship match at 138 pounds, as this was followed by Chance Georgius winning the 190 pound title, beating West Marshall’s Damian Ficken by a 9-0 major decision.
Roman Stotts would then capture his 2nd Heart of Iowa Conference title, winning at 215 pounds by pinning Perry’s Drake Bridges in the championship match, as Gavin Jeter capped the tournament by defeating South Hamilton’s Brody Harris in a 7-3 decision to win the 285 pound title.
The Norsemen saw 5 runner-up finishes on Monday, as Konnor Blume placed 2nd at 113, Brady Long would be 2nd at 132, Greysun Lein placed 2nd at 150, Myles Handsaker placed 2nd at 157, as Colin Grundlingh placed 2nd at 175.
Other placers for Roland-Story saw Blake Loof placed 3rd at 144, Noah Healy placed 4th at 120, Kael Ammerman placed 4th at 126 and Anthony Jones place 5th at 165.
Roland-Story wrestling returns to action on Thursday, when they compete in a quad meet at Nevada High School with the Cubs, Iowa Falls-Alden and Ogden beginning at 5:30 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
