Stanhope City Council discusses plan for the moving of the town fitness center and a disaster recovery plan for the city.

At a recent meeting, the Stanhope City council discussed plans for the moving of the location for the community’s fitness center. The center is located in the old community building to the Medical Arts Building. There is no air conditioning in the old building and stairs are inhibitive to patrons with mobility issues. Stanhope City Clerk Jori Young stated that she had spoken to a group of Stanhope residents about looking into moving the fitness center to the Medical Arts Building, as they currently occupy various areas of the building.  Erma Bockoven addressed the council and stated that she would move out on March 1,2028. Further discussions concluded. Stanhope mayor Jeff Schroeder directed council members Jill Haman and Tom Stupp to work with Bockoven to come up with a plan to be presented at the February council meeting..

The Stanhope City Council discussed having a plan in place in the event of an emergency. Kelly Wirtz stated that Hamilton County EMS/911 has a disaster plan in place and that the city should work with them. The council asked Stanhope Fire Chief Brad Anderson to attend meetings regularly of the Hamilton County 911 board. He would likely be the point of contact in the event of an emergency.

This Sunday, February 1st will be the final day for bids for the overseer for water and wastewater distribution for Stanhope. The role is to include occasional weekend water chores and training and to work with Tim Dally to work towards his certification. The bids will be accepted at P.O. Box 128 in Stanhope,Iowa 50246 or dropped off at the City Office at 600 Main Street in Stanhope before February 1st.

The city of Stanhope is excited to start working with the Regional Economic Growth Partnership this Spring. The council held a recent meeting with Ottie Maxey of the Ames Regional Economic Alliance about Stanhope’s involvement with the partnership this year.
