FOREST CITY, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles wrestling team returned to action on Saturday morning, as they made the drive into Winnebago County to compete in the annual Top of Iowa Conference Championships at Forest City High School. The Eagles were joined by the host Indians, as well as Central Springs, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Lake Mills, Nashua-Plainfield, Newman Catholic, North Butler-Clarksville, North Union, Northwood-Kensett, Osage, Saint Ansgar, West Fork and West Hancock.
Eagle Grove placed 5th as a team with a total of 169 points, as Osage claimed the conference crown with 252 points. The Eagles claimed 3 runners-up in the tournament, as Dylan Terwilliger placed 2nd at 126, winning his quarterfinal match by 18-0 tech fall over GHV’s Carson Albertson, before a 20-6 major decision win over Forest Ctiy’s Deegan Moore, before losing a 16-8 major decision to Lake Mills’s Mason Helgeson in the final.
Hayden Schafer would finish runner up at 157, winning by fall in the first round over North Union’s Austin Gillis, before winning a 4-1 decision over Central Springs’s Lincoln Levan in the semis, before losing a 9-2 decision to West Hancock’s Teague Smith in the final. James Harle would place 2nd at 285, winning his first 3 matches by fall over North Union’s Jakob Ernster, Central Springs’s Josh Young and Osage’s Jack Dwyer, before losing by fall to Lake Mills’s Josiah Kjeldahl in the final.
Christian Schild placed 3rd at 190, winning by fall over Forest City’s Kobe Umbaugh in his placement match, as Colson Schafer placed 3rd at 144, winning his 3rd place match by an 11-6 decision over West Hancock’s Preston Gayken. Jayden Kreitlow placed 5th at 175, winning his 5th place match by a 1-0 decision over Nashua-Plainfield’s Elijah Cerwinske, as Hunter Waldo Martinez placed 5th at 132, winning his placement match by medical forfeit over Forest City’s Andrew Hofman.
Other placers for Eagle Grove saw Ethan Schreiber place 7th at 106, Andrew Orozco place 8th at 120, Keegan Eisentrager place 7th at 138, Caden Hauenstein place 7th at 165 and Hilario Santos place 7th at 215.
Eagle Grove wrestling returns to action on Monday, as they travel to Clarion to take on Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Forest City in tri-dual action, beginning at 6 PM.
