PERRY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx, Eagle Grove Eagles and South Hamilton Hawks wrestling teams returned to action on Saturday morning, as they made the trip into Dallas County to compete in the annual Perry Invitational at Perry High School. The Lynx, Eagles and Hawks were joined by the host Bluejays, as well as Albia, Carlisle, Carroll, Dowling Catholic, Glenwood, Greene County, North Tama, Okoboji-HMS, PCM, Saydel, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Spencer, West Delaware and West Marshall.
Eagle Grove was the top placing team in the area, finishing 8th with 105 points. The Eagles top placer was senior James Harle, who placed 3rd at 285, winning his placement match by sudden victory over West Marshall’s Jacob Dare. Dylan Terwilliger placed 4th at 126, losing by fall to Dowling’s Josh Bergkamp in the placement match, as Hayden Schafer placed 4th at 157, losing his 3rd place match to Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s Dax Koedam by major decision. Jayden Kreitlow also placed 4th at 175, losing his 3rd place match by tech fall to Glenwood’s Nile Lundvall. Keegan Eisentrager would place 6th at 138, while Jackson Babcock placed 6th at 150.
Webster City placed 11th in the tournament with 74.5 points, as the Lynx top placer was senior Eli Estlund, who placed 2nd at 190 pounds, losing the championship match to Carroll’s Kieran Polking by a 4-1 decision. Dawson Bertran placed 4th at 138 pounds, losing his 3rd place match by major decision to Carlisle’s Sullivan Baccam, as Cody Elliott finished 6th at 215 and Angel Ramirez placed 6th at 106.
South Hamilton would place 16th in the tournament with 11 points, as the Hawks would not see any placers in the tournament.
Webster City wrestling returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the annual North Central Conference Championships at Humboldt High School, beginning at 10 AM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com. Eagle Grove wrestling returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Top of Iowa Conference Championships at Forest City High School, beginning at 10 AM. South Hamilton wrestling returns to action on Friday, when they compete in the Heart of Iowa Conference Championships at Saydel High School in Des Moines, beginning at 5 PM.
