CLARION, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys wrestling team returned to action on Thursday night, as they hosted the Charles City Comets, St. Edmond Gaels and (1A) #1 Don Bosco Dons in a quad dual meet at CGD High School.
CGD started the night with a “perfect dual”, shutting out Charles City by a score of 84-0. The Cowboys picked up wins by fall from Cole Wibholm (106), Estuardo Lopez (113), Paxton Redenius (120), Dawson Beyer (150), Ryland Morgan (165), Easton Beyer (190) and JT Kelso (285), with forfeit wins from Angel Cortes Hinojosa (126), Adrian Phetxoumphone (132), Ryan Hartwig (138), Reed Campbell (144), Colin Sesker (157), Eli Hodge (175) and Traesyn Cope (215).
The Cowboys followed up by dominating St. Edmond in a North Central Conference dual by a score of 77-6, as the wins by fall were picked up by Cole Wibholm (106), Estuardo Lopez (120), Angel Cortes Hinojosa (126), Dawson Beyer (150), Colin Sesker (157) and JT Kelso (285) and a tech fall from Paxton Redenius (113). Forfeit wins were picked up by Adrian Phetxoumphone (132), Ryan Hartwig (138), Ryland Morgan (165), Easton Beyer (175), Eli Hodge (190) and Traesyn Cope (215).
In a rematch of a dual in the Battle of Waterloo championships, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows would return the favor to the top-ranked team in 1A, taking down Don Bosco 39-38. The Dons started the meet ahead 32-6, with the Cowboys lone win a pin by Linden Phetxoumphone at 132. The Cowboys then received wins by fall from Dawson Beyer (150), Colin Sesker (157), Easton Beyer (175), Eli Hodge (190) and JT Kelso (285), with a decision from Ryland Morgan (165) to win 7 of the last 8 bouts to cap the comeback.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Doc Carr Duals in New Hampton, beginning at 10 AM.
