Roland-Story basketball splits home HOIAC doubleheader with Grand View Christian

STORY CITY, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Grand View Christian Thunder in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School. The Norse girls entered at 8-3, while the Norsemen entered at 8-1.

Tuesday’s girls game would be a battle throughout the 1st half, as the game would be tied at 20-20 at the halftime break. From there, Roland-Story’s offense opened up and outscored the Thunder 40-22 in the 2nd half for a 60-42 victory.

Junior Riley Johnson erupted for a 26-point performance, while Brinley Carlson added 11 for the Norse. Maiah Murphy led Grand View Christian with 22 points.

The boys game followed as offenses dominated the opening frame, with the game tied at 19-19 at the end of the first quarter, as a late spurt from GVC gave the Thunder a 31-28 halftime lead. The Thunder slightly added to that lead by the end of the 3rd at 43-39, as Roland-Story had numerous chances to grab the lead late in the 4th, but were unable to do so in a 54-49 loss.

Luke Thoreson led Roland-Story with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals, while Eli Van Hove added 12 points and 9 rebounds. Brayden Hoben led Grand View Christian with 19 points.

Roland-Story basketball returns to action next Tuesday, when they travel to Nevada to take on the Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Nevada High School, with tipoff at 6 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
