POCAHONTAS, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip west on Highway 3 to take on the Pocahontas Area Indians in non-conference action at Pocahontas Area High School. The Cowgirls entered at 0-9, while the Cowboys entered at 6-2.
Pocahontas would jump on the Cowgirls early, leading 29-2 after the first quarter, a lead that grew to 48-5 by halftime. The Indians kept their foot on the gas in the 3rd quarter before easing off in the 4th to grab a 77-9 victory.
CGD stats were not available as of Wednesday morning, Alayna Kakacek led the Indians with 17 points.
In the boys game, it was the Cowboys who would jump on Pocahontas early with full-court pressure, allowing CGD to lead 27-7 after the first quarter, maintaining that 20-point lead at halftime at 39-19. The Pocahontas offense got going in the 3rd quarter, but CGD’s offense was too much, as the Cowboys led 60-35 after the 3rd quarter, before settling on a 69-45 final.
Junior Chaz Lane led the Cowboys with 18 points, as freshman Paxton Lingenfelter added 15 points in his first varsity start, while Huxley Lingenfelter contributed 14 points.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Friday, when they host the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at CGD High School with tipoff at 6 PM.
