JEWELL, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Monday night as they hosted the Southeast Valley Jaguars in non-conference action at South Hamilton High School. The Hawk girls entered at 5-6, while the Hawk boys entered at 0-11.
It would be a slow start for the Hawks, as Southeast Valley erupted for 19 first-quarter points and led 19-14. From there, South Hamilton would lock in on the defensive end and led 28-24 at halftime. The 2nd half saw the Hawks relentlessly attack the paint, outscoring the Jaguars 39-13 to grab a 69-37 win.
The KQWC Player of the Game was South Hamilton junior Tessa Skartvedt, who finished with a team-high 15 points, as Signe Swenson added 11 points off the bench. Sage Lane led all scorers with 16 points for Southeast Valley.
In the boys game, South Hamilton would hang around early, trailing 24-13 after a quarter, but the Jaguars were able to build the lead to 41-18 by halftime. The 2nd half would not see Southeast Valley slowdown as the Hawks fell 72-28.
The KQWC Player of the Game for South Hamilton was senior Luke Martensen, who finished with a team-high 11 points, as Ben Swenson added 7 points. Ian Brunner led Southeast Valley with 14 points.
South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Friday night, as they host the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action with tipoff at 6 PM.
