South Hamilton basketball splits HOIAC doubleheader with Greene County in Jewell

JEWELL, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Greene County Rams in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School. The Hawk girls entered at 4-6, as the Hawk boys entered at 0-10.

Friday’s girls game would be a tight contest as the Hawks led 9-7 after the first quarter, before slightly extending that lead to 26-23 at halftime. South Hamilton gained some separation in the 3rd quarter, before holding serve for a 51-41 victory.

Izzy Swenson led the Hawks with 17 points and 7 rebounds, as Emma Lammers followed with 12 points. Becca Anderson led Greene County with 15 points.

South Hamilton’s boys followed by taking an early lead on Greene County at 13-10 after the first quarter, but a big 2nd quarter saw Greene County lead 31-18 at halftime. South Hamilton clawed back into it in the 3rd quarter, trailing 36-30 going into the 4th, but Greene County was able to pull away for a 53-40 victory.

Sam Koehnk led all scorers with 21 points, while Luke Martensen had 7 points, 13 rebounds and 2 blocks. Carter Hinote and Lincoln Schwander led Greene County with 12 points each.

South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Monday night, as they host the Southeast Valley Jaguars in non-conference action at South Hamilton High School with tipoff at 6 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
