Roland-Story basketball splits HOAIC doubleheader at PCM

MONROE, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip south to Jasper County to take on the PCM Mustangs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at PCM High School. The Norse girls entered at 7-1, while the Norsemen entered at 6-1.

Defense would be the name of the game throughout Tuesday’s matchup, as PCM led 6-3 after the first quarter, as the Norsemen offense found rhythm in the 2nd quarter to take a 15-13 halftime lead. PCM’s offense then would wake up when need most, outscoring the Norse 29-14 to come away with a 42-29 win.

Emma Truesdell led Roland-Story with 10 points, as Maddie Berggren added 9 points, while Karsyn Lande added 8 points.

The boys game followed as PCM got out to a good start, leading 12-8 after the first quarter, but Roland-Story was able to flip the script in the 2nd and take a 25-21 halftime lead. The Norsemen continued to add on to their lead in the 3rd quarter, leading 43-32 headed into the 4th, as a high-scoring final frame saw Roland-Story emerge victorious at 62-49.

Luke Thoreson led the Norsemen with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals, as Blake Larson added 13 points and 3 assists.

Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Friday, when they host the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference action with tipoff at 6 PM and can be heard on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
