ARMSTRONG, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the drive to the Iowa-Minnesota border to take on the North Union Warriors in Top of Iowa West action at North Union High School. The Eagle girls entered at 2-7, while the Eagle boys entered at 3-6.
The 15th-rated Warrior girls jumped on the Eagles early, leading 24-8 after the first quarter, pushing the lead to 36-13 at halftime. A big third quarter saw North Union push the lead to 58-24 before settling on a 69-30 victory.
Ellie Lenning and Kendra Schild led the Eagles with 7 points each, as Schild added 8 rebounds. Ainsley Ulrich led North Union with 24 points.
The boys game was tight early on, as North Union led 12-8 after the first quarter, but Eagle Grove rallied in the 2nd to take a 21-20 halftime lead. Offenses picked up on both sides in the 3rd, as North Union grabbed a 40-36 lead headed into the 4th, as the Warriors were able to hold off Eagle Grove late for a 57-46 victory.
Adrian Whipple led the Eagles with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, while Trenton Robinson added 9 points and 9 rebounds.
Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Friday, when they host the North Iowa Bison in Top of Iowa West action at Eagle Grove Elementary School with tipoff at 6:15 PM.
