EAGLE GROVE, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines in non-conference action at Eagle Grove Elementary School. The Eagle girls entered at 2-6, while the boys also entered at 2-6.
West Bend-Mallard would get off to a hot start in the girls game, leading 11-2 after the first quarter, before Eagle Grove stormed back to cut the deficit to 22-18 at halftime. The Eagles were kept at arms length in the 3rd quarter as they trailed 35-31, and could not get over the hump in a 47-39 defeat.
Eagle Grove stats were not available as of Tuesday morning, Scarlett Olson led West Bend-Mallard with 16 points.
The boys game followed as Eagle Grove took control early, leading 16-10 after the first quarter, a lead which grew to 29-17 at halftime. West Bend’s offense got going more in quarter three, but it was Eagle Grove that kept up the pace for all 4 quarters for a 64-34 win.
Adrian Whipple led all scorers with 23 points, as Braylon Kling added 15 points. Gavin Pedersen also contributed 7 points as well.
Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Tuesday, as they travel to far-northern Iowa to take on the North Union Warriors in Top of Iowa West action at North Union High School in Armstrong with tipoff at 6:15 PM.
