CHARLES CITY — The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Saturday, as they made the trip to far northern Iowa to take on the Charles City Comets in non-conference action at Charles City High School. The Lynx girls entered at 2-4, while the Lynx boys entered at 1-2.
Webster City’s girls pounced on the Comets early, leading 15-0 after the first quarter, as margin that ballooned to 40-6 at halftime. The Lynx kept their foot on the gas in the 3rd quarter, up 57-14 before cruising to a 71-20 victory.
Sophomore Evie Davis had a monster night with 23 points, 16 rebounds and a block, while Alivia Burns finished with 12 points and a pair of three-pointers.
The boys game followed as offenses shown in the first quarter as the Lynx led 20-15, as Charles City closed the gap slightly by halftime with Webster City ahead 31-27. The Comets would bring it even closer in the 3rd, as the Lynx led 43-42, before Webster City pulled away with a big 4th quarter to cap a 68-55 win.
Junior Coyce Bertran finished with a game-high 27 points, while Alex Staley added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Jaxon Griffith added 11 points and 4 assists.
Webster City boys basketball returns to action on Monday night, as they travel to Manson to take on Manson-Northwest Webster in non-conference action with tipoff at 7:30 PM on AM 1570 KZWC or streaming online at kqradio.com. The Lynx girls return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Clear Lake.
