South Hamilton basketball swept by PCM in home HOIAC doubleheader

JEWELL, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Friday, as they hosted the PCM Mustangs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Coach Jim Marsh Court at South Hamilton High School. The Hawk girls entered at 3-4, while the Hawk boys entered at 0-7.

Friday was a tall task for the Hawk girls taking on the #8 team in 3A, trailing 20-10 after the first quarter, and 36-22 at halftime. Defense kept the Hawks around in the 3rd quarter, trailing 49-29 headed into the 4th as PCM pulled away for a 67-39 victory.

The KQWC Player of the Game was senior Izzy Swenson, who finished with 10 points and 2 threes, as Adelyn Trask added 8 points and Kaylen Trask scored 6 points.

The boys game followed as the Hawks were able to muddy things up for the Mustangs most of the night, as PCM led 10-3 after the first quarter, as South Hamilton hung around by halftime with a score of 26-13. PCM only marginally grew the lead through the 3rd quarter, up 36-20 headed into the 4th, but the Mustangs pulled away late for a 52-23 victory.

The KQWC Player of the Game was senior Sam Koehnk, who finished with 8 points, as Ben Swenson and Luke Martensen added 5 points each.

South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they face the Perry Bluejays in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Casey’s Center in Des Moines with tipoff at 6 PM.
