Young re-named Hamilton County Supervisor chairman for 2026 with Ely as vice-chair.

Rick Young was reappointed the Hamilton County Supervisor board chairman for 2026 at the organizational meeting of the board Friday morning. April Ely was named the chairperson pro-tem for 2026. The board approved a contract with Petersen Contractors,Inc. of Reinbeck for two bridge replacement projects in Hamilton County. The bid came in at $852,675.68 for the work at Hamilton County Road R-61 south of Ellsworth and on Tollman Avenue near Randall in the southeastern part of the county. There were six bids received to Hamilton County engineer Ryan Weidemann reviewed by the Iowa DOT office. The supervisors approved a resolution for the Master Matrix for 2026. The matrix is used for the guidelines for animal facilities to be built with certain standards with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

In other matters, the Hamilton County Supervisors approved the precinct official’s compensation for 2026 with the primary and general elections this year and other special elections. The chairperson of each precinct will be paid $15.00 while election workers will receive $13.00. The depositories for county funds to be invested were approved by the board. The hours for the Hamilton County Courthouse for 2026 were approved from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. weekdays but the engineer’s office will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. weekdays. The Hamilton County Supervisors will continue to meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 9:00 a.m.  The holidays for the closing of the courthouse for the year was approved by the board. The courthouse will be closed for the Martin Luther King,Jr. holiday on Monday,January 19th.  There were numerous appointments made by the supervisors for boards and commissions.
