WATERLOO, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys wrestling team returned to action on Friday and Saturday, as they competed in the Dan Gable Museum Battle of Waterloo at Young Arena in Waterloo. The Cowboys were joined by Alburnett, Ankeny, Assumption Davenport, Bettendorf, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Charles City, Clear Lake, Columbus Catholic, Crestwood, Denver, Don Bosco, Independence, Indianola, Iowa City High, Lake Mills, Linn-Mar, Nashua-Plainfield, NH/TV, North Scott, Norwalk, Osage, Pleasant Valley, Southeast Polk, Union Community, Wapsie Valley, Waterloo East, Waterloo West, Waverly-Shell Rock, West Delaware and West Des Moines Valley.
CGD competed in Bracket B on Friday and opened with a 77-3 thrashing of Charles City. The Cowboys then followed up with their toughest bout of the day against Ankeny, as the Cowboys won 41-31 behind pins from Paxton Redenius (120), Linden Phetxoumphone (132), Dawson Beyer (157), Colin Sesker (175) and JT Kelso (285), with major decisions from Adrian Phetxoumphone (138) and Cole Wibholm (106), and a decision from Easton Beyer (190). CGD would then defeat Pleasant Valley in the Final of Bracket B by a margin of 37-31, as the Cowboys secured wins by pin from Angel Cortes (120), Linden Phetxoumphone (132), Adrian Phetxoumphone (138) and Adam Hodson (157), a major decision from Ryan Hartwig (144), a decision from Colin Sesker (175) and a forfeit for Easton Beyer (190).
Saturday saw the Cowboys compete in the championship pool, as they opened by dropping a tight match to 1A powerhouse Don Bosco 37-36. CGD picked up wins by fall from Linden Phetxoumphone (132), Colin Sesker (165), Easton Beyer (190) and Paxton Redenius (120), with decision wins from Adrian Phetxoumphone (138) and Dawson Beyer (157). The Cowboys then lost to 3A powerhouse Southeast Polk 46-23 with pins from Easton Beyer (190) and Joel Meier (285), a tech fall from Colin Sesker (165) and decisions from Cole Wibholm (113) and Paxton Redenius (120). The Cowboys wrapped up Saturday with a 50-17 loss to Indianola with a pin win from Linden Phetxoumphone (132), a tech fall from Ryan Hartwig (138) and decisions from Dawson Beyer (157) and Easton Beyer (190).
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling returns to action in the New Year when they travel to Webster City to take on the Lynx and Hampton-Dumont-CAL in an NCC tri beginning at 6 PM on January 6th.
