JEWELL, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the West Marshall Trojans in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. The Hawk girls entered at 2-4, while the Hawk boys entered at 0-6.
West Marshall jumped out to a fast start in the 1st quarter, leading the Hawks 17-10 after 1 quarter, as the Trojans would hold a 25-17 lead at halftime. South Hamilton then ratcheted up the intensity on defense in the 2nd half, holding the Trojans to just 12 points in the 2nd half as the Hawks rallied for a 41-37 win.
Tessa Skartvedt recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Emma Lammers added 9 points, as Allie Neuberger contributed 6 points.
The boys game followed as West Marshall started quickly, up 18-8 after the first quarter, but South Hamilton kept closes by halftime, trailing 29-17. The 3rd quarter would see the Trojans pull away as West Marshall picked up a 62-41 win.
Sam Koehnk led the Hawks with 15 points on 5 three pointers, while Luke Martensen had 7 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
South Hamilton basketball returns to action after the new year, when they host the PCM Mustangs on January 2nd in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School, with tipoff at 6 PM.
