Roland-Story basketball routs Greene County in HOIAC doubleheader in Jefferson

JEFFERSON, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Friday, as they made the trip west on Highway 30 to take on the Greene County Rams in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Greene County High School in Jefferson. The Norse girls entered at 4-1, while the Norsemen entered at 3-1.

Roland-Story’s girls would pounce on the Rams early, leading 20-8 after the first quarter, a lead that was extended to 37-10 at halftime. The Norse kept their foot on the gas in the 3rd, before easing off in the 4th to cap a 64-14 victory.

Riley Johnson led the Norse with 14 points and 5 assists, while Brinley Carlson added 12 points and 3 assists with 4 three-pointers. Lauren Crabbs also added 9 points and 4 rebounds.

In the boys game, things were tight early on as the game was tied at 12-12 after the first, as the Norsemen opened up a lead by halftime at 22-16. The 2nd half saw Roland-Story turn on the after-burners thanks to a 29-point 3rd quarter, as the Norsemen rolled to a 71-35 victory.

Eli Van Hove finished with a career-high 22 points and 9 rebounds, as Luke Thoreson filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Cody Long added 10 points and 3 assists as well, as Broc Stream and Zack Stalder led Greene County with 7 points each.

Roland-Story basketball returns to action after the new year, when they travel to State Center to take on West Marshall on January 2nd in Heart of Iowa Conference action with tipoff at 6 PM.
