Hamilton County saw a drop in the unemployment numbers for September in latest figures this week.

The Iowa Workforce Development office announced this week that Hamilton County saw a drop in unemployment for September. The rate was 2.3 percent. This is down from the August rate of 2.9 percent. The reason for the delay was due to the government shutdown. In September, there were 7,820 people employed across Hamilton County while 180 people were without work . The unemployment rates for surrounding counties included Boone County at 2.4 percent, Franklin, Story and Wright counties were all tied at 2.5 percent, Hardin County at 2.8 percent and Webster County at 3.1 percent. Iowa’s unemployment rate for September was at 3.7 percent. There were 1,676,000 Iowans who were employed while 64,900 were unemployed for September.
