STORY CITY, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they renewed their long-standing rivalry at Roland-Story High School in Story City. Roland-Story’s basketball team’s entered at 4-1 and 2-1, while South Hamilton’s basketball team’s entered at 2-3 and 0-5.
A slugfest would be the style of the girls game, as Roland-Story led 13-2 after the first quarter, as the Norsemen slowly, yet surely added to their lead, up 24-4 at halftime. Roland-Story continued to use defense to create offense in the 2nd half as the finished with a 45-12 victory.
The KQWC Player of the Game for Roland-Story was junior Riley Johnson, who had a game-high 15 points, as Emma Truesdell added 8 points and Cam Thoreson added 7 points off the bench.
The KQWC Player of the Game for South Hamilton was junior Tessa Skartvedt, who finished with 6 rebounds and 4 blocks, as a handful of Hawks finished with 2 points each.
Roland-Story’s boys would jump on the Hawks quickly, leading 21-2 after the first quarter, pushing that lead out to 42-10 at halftime. The Norsemen defense would lock things down in the 2nd half as Roland-Story coasted to a 75-15 victory.
The KQWC Player of the Game for Roland-Story was junior Luke Thoreson, who finished with a game-high 21 points. Caden Burres, Blake Larson and Gabe Jonas would each add 9 points.
The KQWC Player of the Game for South Hamilton was sophomore Ben Swenson, who finished with 4 points. Kaden Dean also finished with 4 points for the Hawks.
Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Friday, as they travel to Jefferson to take on the Greene County Rams in Heart of Iowa Conference action with tipoff at 6 PM. South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Friday, when they host the West Marshall Trojans in Heart of Iowa Conference action with tipoff at 6 PM.
