CLEAR LAKE, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys and Cowgirls basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip to Cerro Gordo County to take on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Clear Lake High School. The Cowgirls entered at 0-5, while the Cowboys entered at 3-1.
Clear Lake would jump on the Cowgirls early, leading 18-0 after the first quarter, as the lead was extended to 41-4 at halftime. The Lions would coast throughout the 2nd half to cap a 72-8 win.
Ruby Poac led the Cowgirls with 4 points on the night, as Taylor Johnson and Daphne Tijull Villatoro would each have 2 points in the game.
The boys game followed as CGD looked to knock off the #1 team in 3A, as the Cowboys trailed 15-11 after the first quarter, but Clear Lake’s defense would stymie CGD in the 2nd to take a 21-16 halftime lead. The Lions defense continued to stifle the Cowboys in the 2nd half as Clear Lake picked up a 62-32 victory.
Chaz Lane led the Cowboys with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks, while Huxley Lingenfelter added 7 points and 10 rebounds. Trevor Theobald and Carson Riser each finished with 11 points for Clear Lake.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Friday, when they host the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets in North Central Conference action at CGD High School with tipoff at 6 PM.
