Stanhope residents and businesses will see an increase in their electric rates in 2026.

At their recent meeting, the Stanhope City Council approved an increase in the electric utility rates for residents and businesses. The council approved a 5 percent increase a month for the first-year electric rates for the 2026 fiscal year. In fiscal year 2027, there will be a two percent  increase a month for the next 4 years for a total of five years of increase. The rates will be reflected in future utility bills early next year.

There will be a slight increase in the annual premium for the Stanhope Fire and EMS insurance. The reason for the increase is due to an increase in volunteer Fire and EMS membership in Stanhope.

The Stanhope City Council and its city clerk Jori Young passed out certificates to the recently elected mayor and incoming council members Devin Hensley, Paul Hetland and Tom Stupp. The council went on to approve the annual pay scale for the mayor, city council members, fire and EMS department members for 2026.
