NEW Cooperative Donates Hams to Upper Des Moines Opportunity in Hamilton County

During the week of December 8th, NEW Cooperative, Inc. held its annual Hams for Hunger event, supporting food pantries across Iowa. This year, Upper Des Moines Opportunity in Hamilton County was among the many locations to receive donated hams.

Since 2018, NEW Cooperative has partnered with local food pantries throughout its trade territory to deliver hams to families in need. This ongoing effort helps ease food insecurity while bringing a bit of extra joy to households during the holiday season.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Land O’ Lakes for their continued support. Thanks to their generous matching funds, NEW Cooperative was able to distribute 4,500 hams to local food pantries, the equivalent of 24,630 pounds of Iowa-grown pork.

A heartfelt thank-you also goes out to our dedicated employees who assisted with distributing and delivering hams to these 43 food pantries. Their commitment made it possible to reach communities from the Highway 9 corridor in northwest Iowa, southwest to Fremont County, into the Cainsville, Missouri area, and north along the Interstate 35 corridor.

“NEW Cooperative’s Hams for Hunger event has been a central part of our community-giving program for many years,” said Gary Moritz, NEW Cooperative Communications Director. “We hope this gesture helps make the holiday season a little brighter for every recipient. From all of us at NEW Cooperative, we wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!”
