Webster City basketball drops NCC doubleheader to Hampton-Dumont-CAL at home

WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City’s girls entered at 2-1, while the boys were in their season-opener.

The girls game started out well for the Lynx, as they led the Bulldogs 13-6 after the first quarter, but HD-CAL flipped the script in the 2nd as they led 18-17 at the halftime break. Defenses would rule throughout the 2nd half, as Webster City had a 26-23 lead after the 3rd quarter, but a big final frame from the Bulldogs gave Hampton-Dumont-CAL a 36-32 victory.

Evie Davis led Webster City with 9 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, while Tristyn Wright added 7 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

Webster City’s boys followed looking to open their season 1-0, but trailed the Bulldogs 13-8 after the first quarter, but kept things close in the 2nd quarter and trailed just 22-16 at the halftime break. HD-CAL was able to extend the lead through the 3rd quarter, up 36-25 going into the 4th. However, Webster City would make a furious rally in the 4th quarter, but would ultimately come up just short in a 47-46 loss.

Coyce Bertran led Webster City with 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting, while Grant Arends had 4 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks. Brady Harr led Hampton-Dumont-CAL with 23 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Webster City basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets in North Central Conference action with tipoff at 6 PM on AM 1570 KZWC and streaming online at kqradio.com.
