PARKERSBURG, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys wrestling team returned to action on Saturday morning, as they made the trip into Butler County to compete in the annual Keith Vry Invitational at Aplington-Parkersburg High School in Parkersburg. The Cowboys were joined by the hosts in AP-GC, as well as Benton Community, Charles City, Crestwood, Dike-New Hartford, Don Bosco, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Janesville, OABCIG and Osage.
CGD would place 2nd in the tournament with 250 points, just 8.5 points behind meet champion Don Bosco. The Cowboys would crown 7 meet champions on Saturday, starting with Paxton Redenius at 120 pounds, who won a 19-3 tech fall over Crestwood’s Carver Butikofer in the final. Linden Phetxoumphone then won the 132-pound title, winning a 15-0 tech fall over Osage’s Jasper Sonberg in the title match.
At 138 pounds, Adrian Phetxoumphone won the title with a 17-0 tech fall over Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Brody Strother in the championship, as Dawson Beyer won the title at 157 pounds, winning with a 22-4 tech fall over Osage’s Brock Trees. Colin Sesker would win the 165 pound title with a 15-0 tech fall over Dike-New Hartford’s Gavin Gerbracht, Easton Beyer won the 190 pound title over AP-GC’s Mason Pruisner with a 1st-period fall, while JT Kelso won the 285-pound title with a 4-1 decision over Janesville’s Logan Lashbrook.
Other placers saw Cole Wibholm place 2nd at 106, Brandon Stein placed 5th at 113, Reed Campbell placed 3rd at 150 as Eli Hodge placed 6th at 175.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Iowa Falls for an NCC tri-dual with Iowa Falls-Alden and Algona at Iowa Falls-Alden High School, beginning at 6 PM.
